Each Q&A sees an expert provide an overview of a medical condition, including information on things such as who is most likely to be affected by the condition, treatment options and how to access support.

The World Hepatitis Alliance has launched a global survey with the aim of gathering views on the barriers to hepatitis B and C diagnosis in countries across the world. The survey is part of the World Hepatitis Alliances's programme to find the 'missing millions', with 300 million people living with viral hepatitis unaware of their status. It is aimed at anyone with experience of hepatitis, including people living with viral hepatitis, people working in civil society, healthcare workers and policy makers. The Government has today announced the Chair of the contaminated blood inquiry as Sir Brian Langstaff, a High Court Judge. The announcement, made via a Written Ministerial Statement, reveals that the inquiry will be established under the 2005 Inquiries Act, with full powers, including the power to compel the production of documents, and to summon witnesses to give evidence on oath.

  NHS leaders yesterday announced that they will be working with the pharmaceutical industry to strike a deal providing best value for money for hepatitis C treatments. The NHS hopes the deal will allow it to commit to eliminating Hepatitis C in England at least five years earlier than the World Health Organisation goal of 2030.

Co-ordinated by The Hepatitis C Trust, the Scottish Hepatitis C Parliamentary Champions are a cross-party selection of MSPs with a shared goal of ensuring that hepatitis C stays firmly on the political agenda in Scotland. By working together with The Hepatitis C Trust, the Champions ensure that the best interests of people with hepatitis C in Scotland are represented in the Scottish Parliament.

Over the last few years, The Hepatitis C Trust has heard of many hepatitis C support groups around the UK closing down. During the last 6 months in particular, we have also seen attendance at our groups decline greatly. Whilst this is positive and reflects that with the advent of new treatments many people are  finding their journey with hepatitis C much easier to navigate and manage, it is also with a mixture of sadness that - after 13 years of running a wide variety of different groups here at The Trust - we have taken the decision to close ours, at least for the near future.
